Your most common questions, answered.
ARE YOU CERTIFIED?
Yes, in both hair and makeup. I did makeup for 10 years, and only recently became a hairstylist (almost one year).
WHERE DID YOU STUDY?
Both hair and makeup at the Hair Design Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I also have a psychology degree from Dalhousie University.
WHERE ARE YOU BASED?
In October of 2017 I will be based in Toronto.
ARE YOU EVER COMING BACK TO DUBAI?
I still do take bridal Dubai bookings for the winter seasons. The past year I have been focusing on hairstyling, so I couldn't travel.
Right now my schedule is more flexible and I'm taking bookings for Winter 2018 in the UAE. Let me know as soon as you have the date so I can book my time off.
HAVE YOU DONE CELEBRITIES?
In Dubai, yes. I did makeup for well-known tennis players during awards season; famous actresses for Ramadan soaps; Wafa Al-Kilani, a famous TV personality; CNN's Erin Burnett, among others.
DO YOU TRAVEL OUTSIDE OF TORONTO?
For sure. Travel charges do apply, though.
DO YOU DO CUTS AND COLOR?
Yes. However, I'm not that crazy about color, except balayage, because that's fun. I also don't have the salon to do color. Maybe one day. My specialty at the moment is cutting and styling.
DO YOU DO UPDOS?
I received my hair license in January of 2017, so I'm still a junior stylist. Having said that, I'm probably not as fast as someone who's been doing it for 10 years, but I'm detailed and passionate, and believe that anything is possible with some teasing, hairspray, and a sparkling hair accessory.
If you are picky about your hair, or require an intricate up-do, I suggest you book with a hairstylist who is more experienced than I am.
DO YOU PUT IN EXTENSIONS?
HOW LONG DO YOU NEED FOR AN UPDO?
Normally one hour. More detail will require more time.
WHAT ABOUT A BLOW-DRY?
I love doing blow-drys. Shouldn't take longer than 45 minutes for long hair. The shorter the hair, the less time needed.
CAN YOU JUST DO MY EYES?
Sorry, that's not an option. Eyes without the rest of the face just don't work. If you have applied your foundation and concealer, then maybe we can work around it. Even if you hate foundation, we can use loose mineral powder and a touch of liquid concealer. The contrast is essential.
However, the price is still the same as a full makeup application.
WHAT ABOUT JUST LASHES?
Again, I would have to charge for a full face.
ARE LASHES INCLUDED?
Of course. No makeup is ever complete without lashes!
WILL MY LASHES FALL OFF?
I've never had a client tell me their lashes had fallen off. I have used the pink DUO glue for years and it has never failed me. (Although I hear it's discontinued!)
DO YOU DO TRIALS?
Yes, for brides only. I'll need 2-3 hours to go over the entire look and test out a couple of looks.
HOW LONG DO YOU NEED TO DO A FACE?
For regular makeup, one hour.
For brides, between 1.5 to 2 hours. The more detail, the more time I need.
HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN YOU DO?
I have done up to 13 people, but that was exhausting! Five people is maximum for hair and makeup. I prefer to chat and figure out timings to make sure we fit everyone in.
DO YOU USE STRIP LASHES?
Sometimes. Strip lashes look good on only some eyes. Most of the time they're too long or they poke in all the wrong places. Recently, though, I have become obsessed with Kiss lashes. I also love the Ardell Demi-Wispies.
Individual lashes are always in my kit, too.
I will custom-design the best option for you - be it individual or strip or both.
(Strip lashes do take less time, so if time is an issue, or I'm doing a group, I will almost always use the full strip.)
DO YOU DO DESTINATION WEDDINGS? HOW MUCH WOULD THAT BE?
Absolutely! If you are looking to book for a destination wedding, prices are flexible, simply because I love to travel and willing to take a nice work-ation.
ARE YOU ON YOUTUBE?
Yup. I had a UAE channel that had over 1000 subscribers, and now just moved a new Canadian channel that has barely any. Bare with me while I update, film and edit. To check out the videos on it click here.
WILL MY FACE MELT?
I hope not! I haven't had any issues with makeup sliding. If you are excessively oily, It would be best to purchase blot tissues and powder. Lipstick usually stays on, unless you like to eat your lips like me!
Of course, the only exception is crying. If you're going to wipe your face with your tears, there is very little I can do for you. Make sure you have powder on you, or come and find me.
WHAT BRANDS DO YOU USE?
RCMA, NARS, MAC, NYX, MUFE, Ben Nye, Urban Decay, Sephora, Sigma, Maybelline plus many others.
DO YOU USE PRIMERS?
DO YOU NEED ME TO BRING ANYTHING?
If you have something you absolutely love or want to try, sure. I usually have everything. I do recommend bringing anything you need for touch-ups - hairspray, lipstick, blot papers & powder, however.
WILL YOU STAY UNTIL THE BRIDE GOES DOWN TO THE BALLROOM?
Usually, yes. When I do a group of people, most of the time I'm still there when everyone is done and will ask if anyone needs a touch-up before I pack up. I prefer this set-up since it gives me peace of mind that my masterpiece is perfect!
PS. the best way to make sure that you get amazing, free service is to invite me to the wedding (ha-ha)
DO YOU GIVE DISCOUNTS?
I'm a bargain hunter myself, so I understand how nice a discount is. However, I also love luxury and I pay for good quality service.
What you get with me is professional, on-time service of excellent calibre.
The price you pay goes to fund my business and additional training by the world's top artists.
This keeps my work top-notch and allows me to continue to give you the best service, afford the best products, and hire great talent.
I'M GETTING MARRIED. CAN YOU HELP ME?
Of course! Head on to the contact page and let's chat.
ARE YOU HIRING?
Since I'm a one-woman show, I may need assistance from time to time. Send me an email telling me what position you're looking for and I'll do my best to get you on board.
I'M READY TO BOOK. WHAT NOW?
Prices vary according to your needs. We will need to have a chat over the phone to figure out exactly what you're looking for.
As for payment, there is a 50% deposit upfront to book your spot. For brides, the trial fee is deducted from the total once you book.
i.e. If you do the trial and you don't book, I keep the trial fee. If you do the trial and do book me for your wedding, the trial is free.
The deposit is meant to secure your spot for that day and time. Should you move the date, the deposit is non-refundable. I am quite busy and having last-minute cancellations is unfair to both myself and my clients.
Should I, for any reason outside of my control, cancel, the deposit will be refunded back to you.
Please keep a copy of all of our transactions. I'm human - sometimes I lose stuff.
